Maximizing Your Airline Miles

The key to getting great value from airline miles is knowing when to use them and when to pay cash. This calculator computes your cents per mile so you can make an informed decision about whether a specific redemption is worth it.

Cents Per Mile by Cabin Class

Business and first class redemptions typically offer the highest cents-per-mile value because the cash prices of premium cabins are so much higher. An economy redemption yielding 1.5 cents per mile is solid, while a business class redemption at 3+ cents per mile is excellent. The calculator adjusts its value targets based on your selected cabin class.

When to Save Your Miles

If your redemption calculates below 1 cent per mile, you may be better off paying cash and saving your miles for a higher-value booking. This is especially common on short domestic economy flights where cash prices are already low. International premium cabins tend to provide the best value per mile.
